City leaders push for action to restore Indian River Lagoon

During a recent government meeting, discussions centered on the critical condition of the Indian River Lagoon and the need for proactive measures to improve its health. A member of the council emphasized the importance of addressing stormwater management, highlighting that while the northern part of the lagoon maintains good salinity levels, areas closer to Titusville are experiencing concerning drops in salinity, which negatively impacts local marine life such as seagrass, oysters, and clams.

The council member praised the previous administration's efforts and urged the current leadership to continue engaging with the St. Johns River Water Management District. He noted that the district has expressed willingness to assist but requires clear leadership from the city to initiate collaborative efforts. The council is currently pursuing grants for feasibility studies to further these initiatives.
