Community launches ambitious tree planting initiative

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the initiation of a tree planting initiative set to commence in January. The program, which includes grants for planting trees, aims to enhance local green spaces.

As part of the initiative, 27 trees were planted in the area surrounding the housing commission and Catalonia Park. The cost for this project was estimated at $50,000, which includes expenses for watering the trees—a significant portion of the budget due to the need for ongoing maintenance.

Officials indicated that while the planting season has officially started, the timeline for the full rollout of the grants may extend beyond the end of January. They expressed openness to updates from involved entities as the project progresses, highlighting a commitment to transparency and community engagement in environmental efforts.
