Community outraged over unsafe bridge and neglect

In a recent government meeting, community concerns were raised regarding safety and accessibility issues in the area, particularly focusing on the Red River Road bridge and the surrounding environment. Residents expressed frustration over the lack of progress on repairs to the bridge, which has been a point of contention for three months. Vicki DeBary highlighted ongoing safety hazards, including gunfire incidents and the presence of individuals sleeping in vehicles near the bridge, which she described as a significant risk to the community.

DeBary also recounted a distressing incident involving the transportation of a deceased neighbor, which she deemed disrespectful due to the conditions under which the body was moved. She urged local officials to provide updates on the bridge's status and expressed disappointment over a canceled meeting with CSX, the railroad company responsible for addressing some of these issues.

In response, officials acknowledged the challenges in securing commitments from CSX but noted that arrangements had been made with the local power plant to ensure emergency access for residents. They confirmed that the power plant would accommodate a resident who works night shifts, allowing her to pass through when necessary.

The meeting underscored the community's urgent need for improved infrastructure and safety measures, as residents continue to advocate for timely action from local authorities.
