City transforms blighted property into affordable housing gem

In a recent government meeting, local legislators Joe Comerford and Lindsay Sabadosa highlighted a significant development project aimed at transforming a long-vacant property in Ward 1 into affordable housing for 60 families. The initiative, which is expected to be completed by 2025, represents a $30 million investment and aligns with the city’s sustainability goals by incorporating geothermal heating and solar energy.

The project has garnered support from various state and city funding sources, including Community Preservation Act (CPA) and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. Valley Community Development Corporation (CDC) has been instrumental in spearheading the project, receiving praise for its collaboration with local officials, including Mayor Sierra and the planning department.

Councilor Dobbs also announced an upcoming Ward 4 Neighborhood Circle meeting scheduled for September 24, where he will serve as the guest speaker. Additionally, he conveyed well wishes to Ward 3 Counselor Rothenberg, who was unable to attend due to illness. The meeting underscored the community's commitment to addressing housing needs and fostering local engagement.
