Youth programs receive crucial funding boost amid tight deadlines

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the allocation of an additional $6,106 in funding for youth sports programs, following a brief interaction with the youth advisory board. The funds will be distributed between two programs: the Booker T. Washington after-school basketball program, which will receive $3,106, and the Auburn Lacrosse Boosters youth lacrosse program, which will receive $3,000. These funds are intended to support various aspects of the programs, including equipment, uniforms, and scholarships.

The meeting also highlighted preparations for the upcoming student government day on October 22, where students from seven local schools will shadow departments. Despite logistical challenges leading to a lower participation rate this year, four out of the seven schools have confirmed their attendance. The event will feature a new drop-off system for students at multiple locations to accommodate the changes.

Additionally, updates were provided on the OCFS New York State grant funding for youth programs, with 15 applications received so far, including five from new programs. The deadline for applications has been extended to October 18 to allow more organizations to participate. Officials emphasized the importance of adhering to the new timeline, as all applications must be approved by December 1 to meet state requirements.
