Residents demand delay over unresolved lake project concerns

During a recent government meeting, community concerns regarding local development were prominently voiced, particularly by resident Lisa Masters from Burdess Bay. Masters urged officials to delay a proposed project, citing a lack of preparedness from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and numerous unanswered questions surrounding permits and property impacts.

Masters highlighted the uncertainty faced by residents, noting the absence of crucial maps that would clarify how the project might affect local properties. She emphasized that while only 1 to 2% of Chautauqua County's population resides around the lake, these residents contribute significantly to the tax base, paying nearly 25% of the total taxes. Masters warned that any decline in property values resulting from the project could lead to widespread dissatisfaction among homeowners.

The call for a delay was framed as a necessary step to ensure that all stakeholders are adequately informed and prepared before moving forward. The meeting underscored the importance of community input in local governance and the need for thorough planning in development initiatives.
