Community mourns loss of lifelong advocate for justice

Marsha, a beloved resident of Willowbank, passed away on August 12th, leaving behind a legacy of community service and advocacy. A member of the Oakside portion of Willowbank since 1966, Marsha dedicated 58 years to her community, serving as vice chair of the Willowbank Community Services Advisory Committee and holding the position of secretary for various neighborhood committees.

Known for her commitment to transparency and informed discussions, Marsha was a lifelong advocate for justice. Her activism began during the civil rights movement as a freedom rider and continued as she took a stand against big agribusiness in California while working as a water resource scientist. A passionate advocate for climate change and water conservation since the 1970s, she educated those around her on the importance of water usage in agriculture.

Marsha's daughter fondly remembers her unique approach to life, including her insistence on stopping local ice cream trucks to play Brahms, believing in the power of classical music to enhance the experience of dessert. An avid reader and meticulous proofreader, Marsha also enjoyed making her own salami, yogurt, and granola, and she cultivated an acre of fruit and vegetables, generously sharing her harvest with friends and neighbors.

Her contributions to the community and her unwavering belief that knowledge could drive positive change will be remembered by all who knew her.
