Controversial stormwater utility sparks community debate

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed several key projects and community concerns, notably the controversial stormwater utility initiative. This project has faced opposition from residents who perceive it as an increase in taxes, despite its intended benefits for the island's infrastructure.

The meeting highlighted the varying levels of community support across different regions. Hawaii Kai and Moanalua were noted for their strong backing of the initiatives, while Wailea Kahala expressed objections regarding the boundaries established by the land use plan, which they argue disrupts the Ainokoa Valley.

Another significant topic was the private ownership of the Sewer Street and Plant, which complicates the development of a water distribution system necessary for neighborhood irrigation. The discussion revealed that the plant had previously provided recycled water but ceased operations due to community complaints.
