One resident recounted the struggles of a neighbor who has resorted to using a camp shower due to low water pressure, while facing a proposed monthly rate of approximately $150. Another resident shared a troubling account of a retired couple who received a water bill exceeding $700 despite having no leaks or excessive water usage. The absence of a dispute process for billing discrepancies was criticized, with calls for the city to intervene and provide relief for constituents facing unreasonable charges.

The proposed rate increases could result in staggering hikes of up to 1896% for some households, prompting outrage among residents who feel these adjustments are unjustifiable. One speaker emphasized the need for local officials to act as a counterbalance to what they described as unreasonable pricing driven by automated calculations rather than community needs.

A business owner from Gulf Park Estates also highlighted the stark contrast in water rates between his area and nearby Ocean Springs, noting that his water bill was significantly higher for what he perceived as inferior service. He pointed out that while his bill with Great River was $51.97, the same service in Ocean Springs cost only $17.22, illustrating a 300% disparity.
