Major construction program set to transform local infrastructure

In a recent government meeting, officials outlined an ambitious public works construction program, highlighting a total funding of $8.5 million from federal sources, 6.75% from state funding, and 11.8% from local contributions, which include American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. The funding will support various projects, including improvements on Tower Road and South Cloverdale.

For the upcoming year, the public works department is proposing a budget of $1.1 million for new equipment, which includes a pickup broom, a striping truck, and a mini excavator. Additionally, significant maintenance programs have been planned, with a $3 million chip seal program, a $2.1 million overlay program, and an $800,000 road striping initiative. A specific project, the Hazeldale Road Bank Repair, is also included in the budget at a cost of $200,000.

Officials noted that while the purchase of the new striping truck is anticipated, it may not be available in time for the 2025 striping season. As a result, a separate striping project has been included in the budget to ensure timely road maintenance.

The meeting concluded with an invitation for public comments, indicating a commitment to community engagement in the planning process.
