Community leaders demand answers on delayed grant disbursements

During a recent government meeting, concerns were raised regarding the disbursement of Kakao'o grants, particularly for the fiscal year 2024. A representative from Apolakea, a current grantee, expressed frustration over the delayed payments, noting that only 25% of the total award has been issued despite 75% of the grant term having elapsed. The representative emphasized the urgency of receiving the remaining funds to fulfill their commitments before the grant term ends in December 2024.

Trustee Trust acknowledged the issue and offered to follow up with the concerned party to gather more information. The discussion highlighted the challenges faced by organizations relying on timely funding to support their charitable missions.

In addition to the grant concerns, the meeting included a farewell to Kayla Newman, a member of the grants team, who is leaving her position. Several trustees praised her dedication and hard work, noting the significant effort she put into managing the grants process. Trustee Ahuno specifically thanked Newman for her contributions, while other trustees echoed sentiments of loss and appreciation for her commitment to the community.

Trustee Trask also highlighted the unique challenges faced by grant teams on the neighbor islands, emphasizing the personal investment of team members in their work.
