Concerns Raised Over Controversial Curriculum Video in Schools

During a recent school committee meeting, parent Ashley Cabral raised concerns regarding the curriculum being used in local schools, specifically a science video shown to her fourth-grade daughter. Cabral expressed her discomfort with the content, which featured a person dressed as a woman discussing energy, and questioned the oversight of educational materials provided to students. She noted that access to the curriculum was restricted to teachers, making it difficult for parents to review the content being taught.

Cabral highlighted that the video had been part of the curriculum purchased by the town several years ago and expressed concern that it had been shown multiple times without any parental feedback. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that educational materials are appropriate for young children and called for better oversight of the videos being used in classrooms.

The committee acknowledged Cabral's concerns and suggested that she follow up via email with the superintendent for further discussion. Following this public input, the committee announced a brief recess before entering an executive session to discuss ongoing litigation related to Amarillo Busco Incorporated. The committee confirmed that they would not return to open session after the executive session.
