Residents demand urgent drainage solutions after severe flooding

Residents voiced significant concerns regarding drainage issues at a recent government meeting, highlighting the impact of recent hurricanes on local properties. A long-time resident, who has lived in the area for 42 years, detailed their experience with flooding, particularly during Hurricane Ian and more recently during Hurricane Milton.

The resident explained that a canal running through the Wentworth subdivision has become a critical drainage point, with specific culverts identified as bottlenecks that exacerbate flooding during heavy rains. The culverts, which are reportedly only 30 to 36 inches in diameter, struggle to accommodate the volume of water, leading to overflow and flooding in surrounding properties.

The resident emphasized that while they do not oppose development in the area, they seek assurances that drainage improvements will be made to prevent future flooding. The discussion underscores the need for local authorities to address infrastructure challenges as development continues, ensuring that drainage systems can effectively manage stormwater and protect residents from flooding.
