Residents demand action on blinding security light issue

The Bettendorf City Council held a meeting where important topics were discussed, including epilepsy awareness and community concerns about local business lighting.

During the meeting, a representative thanked the city for recognizing October as Epilepsy Awareness Month. They highlighted that epilepsy affects 1 in 26 people, often without others knowing. The representative encouraged the community to participate in free seizure first aid training sessions available for schools, first responders, and the general public. They also mentioned the support services available for those with epilepsy, including medical treatment and assistance with anxiety related to seizures.

The meeting also featured a public request segment where residents could voice their concerns. Janine Forsyth, a local resident, raised an issue about a new security light from a nearby business that shines into her home, making her backyard uncomfortable. She requested that the light be adjusted to reduce its impact on her property. City officials acknowledged her concern and promised to look into the matter.

The council then moved on to a public hearing regarding changes to the city’s sign ordinance. Council member Brown initiated the first reading of the proposed amendments, signaling the council's intent to review and potentially approve the changes.

The meeting highlighted the city's commitment to community health awareness and responsiveness to resident concerns.
