Historic homes face demolition and preservation decisions

During a recent government meeting, the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) discussed two significant cases regarding properties in the Robins Park Historic District. The first case involved a request for a certificate of appropriateness to demolish a single-family home located at 6 South Elm Street. The commission unanimously approved this motion, with all members voting in favor.

Following the demolition approval, the commission moved to consider a second motion. This motion was to construct a new single-family home on the same site. Again, the commission members voted unanimously in favor of this proposal, indicating strong support for the new development.

The meeting also included a public hearing focused on the inclusion of properties on the historically significant structures list. This was the ninth round of evaluations, with five properties under consideration. The commission reviewed each property to determine if it met at least one of the six required evaluation criteria. The properties that qualify will be added to the list, making them eligible for preservation incentives. Currently, there are 89 homes approved on this list.
