Residents demand action against dangerous speeding on local streets

During a recent city council meeting in Yukon, residents voiced concerns about ongoing traffic issues in their neighborhood. Ronnie Short, a local resident, addressed the council about the persistent speeding problems on his street, despite previous efforts to address the situation.

Short explained that he and his neighbor, Jared Owens, have been trying to tackle the speeding issue for three years. They have collected signatures from residents requesting action, but Short claimed that their concerns were overlooked by city officials. He mentioned that he had previously presented these signatures to Chief Korn and the city manager, but no progress had been made.

Short highlighted the inadequacy of the current speed limit measures, stating that the street remains a long stretch where drivers frequently exceed the speed limit. He expressed frustration over the lack of effective solutions, noting that a radar trailer placed in the area was not capturing the speed of many vehicles. He emphasized that the safety of his grandchildren and other residents is at risk due to reckless driving.

Despite meeting with the traffic commission and presenting their concerns, Short reported that no action has been taken to improve the situation. He urged the council to take the issue seriously and implement measures to ensure the safety of residents on his street. The meeting underscored the ongoing challenges faced by community members in addressing local traffic safety concerns.
