Employee of the Year honored for lifesaving community initiatives

Miami-Dade County held a special ceremony on December 5, 2024, to honor outstanding employees with the Employee Service Awards. The event celebrated individuals who have made significant contributions to the community through their dedication and hard work.

The ceremony began with a warm welcome and acknowledgment of nominees from various departments. Among the nominees was Ingrid Martinez from Human Resources, recognized for her leadership in managing the disaster assistance employee program. Her efforts have greatly enhanced the safety and preparedness of Miami-Dade residents during crises.

Nicole Talman, who has served in the mayor's office in various roles, was also honored. She is known for her creativity and problem-solving skills, even earning the title of the county's first poetry ambassador. Her contributions have made a lasting impact on the office and the community.

Leticia Smith from the Medical Examiner's Office was recognized as the first runner-up. She has shown exceptional integrity and has overseen significant improvements in accountability and transparency within her department.

The highlight of the event was the announcement of the Sean McCracken Above and Beyond Award. This year, the award went to Jim O'Connor, the aquatics safety coordinator for Parks, Recreation, and Open Space. With 33 years of service, Jim founded the county's drowning prevention coalition and has been instrumental in promoting water safety education for children and adults alike. His commitment to preventing drownings has made a profound impact on the community.

The ceremony concluded with group photos and heartfelt congratulations to all the nominees and award recipients, celebrating their dedication to public service in Miami-Dade County.
