Members recapped recent volunteer work: cemetery trustees and commission volunteers removed heavy overgrowth from a town cemetery over several days and repaired broken posts and a gate at the Morris/Moores Falls site. Levesque credited cemetery trustees and named volunteers; he said Finnegan Fence supplied a fence post free of charge.
"We did it over 3 days, 2 hours a day... There was 3 of us, 2 of us, and then 4 of us," Levesque said, describing the cemetery clean-up effort and the amount of brush hauled away. The commission agreed the effort produced visible improvement and asked staff to coordinate volunteers for a fall community cleanup scheduled for Saturday the 24th at 9 a.m. (meet at the fire station). Members also discussed community-garden compost-bin logistics, seed overseeding results and the need for additional blue trash bags for the cleanup event.
The commission encouraged residents to volunteer for the Oct. 24 cleanup and for smaller brush-clearing work parties at the Derosher and Muster fields; members discussed tools, trailers and safety practices for volunteer events.
