An agency official at the briefing said the subject was added to the FBI's Top Ten most-wanted list in March and that, according to the official, it was the first time a cyber fugitive had been added to that list. "The very first time we've added a cyber fugitive to the FBI's most wanted," the agency official said at the podium.
The official described a maritime capture: the subject was seized at sea and transported by water and air to Omaha with assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard and the FBI's Critical Incident Response Group. The official framed the arrest as part of a broader enforcement message: "If a criminal group or a terrorist organization... sends roving groups of operatives to America... we will arrest everyone we can who is responsible," the official said.
Officials at the briefing credited multiple partners for the apprehension and said an FBI Omaha agent was present for the capture and transfer. The official also noted that 13 defendants in the larger case have been charged with material support of terrorism.
