Elrick Surdan, assistant special agent in charge for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Omaha, told the briefing that Operation Zeus' Revenge is an HSI-led investigation into a large-scale ATM jackpotting conspiracy. "Operation Zeus' Revenge is a Homeland Security Task Force investigation into a large scale ATM jackpotting conspiracy involving alleged Trinidad Agua members and associates," Surdan said.
Surdan said HSI and partners have secured roughly 120 federal indictments and approximately 70 apprehensions in the U.S. and abroad. He provided an HSI loss estimate: "Estimated losses totaled approximately 5,400,000 with an additional 1,400,000 in attempted losses." The HSI figure differs materially from an earlier DOJ statement in the same briefing that said investigators assessed about $61,000,000 in losses since 2021; the briefing transcript records both figures but does not reconcile them.
Surdan named defendants already arrested and acknowledged that many HSI agents remain anonymous because of the nature of their work. He highlighted ongoing investigative efforts and said HSI will continue to pursue groups that exploit financial systems to fund violent criminal activity.
