Residents and trustees spent the forum focused on garbage, recycling and street‑cleaning improvements after the village took sanitation in‑house this season. Multiple speakers praised the new crew, reported reduced ticketing and better service, and proposed concrete changes including a village drop‑off for small project waste, expanded bulk‑pickup dates, community composting and pay‑as‑you‑throw billing for excess cans.
"There is no recycling container, and so I've been going through... taking upwards of 3 or 4 bags of highly... aluminum cans," resident Camille Giuliano said, urging the village to create a system to offload and collect recyclables at the beach. Trustees and staff described operational changes already underway, including a new baler for cardboard and plans to eliminate leased contractor trucks in October as the village transitions to a five‑person sanitation crew.
Village officials said they will produce a calendar showing recyclable dates, trash pickup, bulk pickup rules and what is acceptable; they also promised follow‑up meetings with sanitation staff, police and administrators to address enforcement and service‑disruption notifications. Several residents asked that the village reconsider rental‑related enforcement and offer clearer written guidelines for renters and owners.
