The Kane County Commission voted unanimously Oct. 1 to accept the hearing officer’s recommendations from recent Board of Equalization hearings and direct staff to update the tax roll.
Chanel, a county staff member presenting the BOE package, told commissioners that the appeals process covered about three days in Oak Hills and totaled 138 appeals. “So we have the approval of the Board of Equalization Adjustments, which those go through a hearing process,” Chanel said as she introduced the item. She said many appeals requested the primary residential exemption, several resulted in value decreases, two parcels qualified for greenbelt status, four properties increased because improvements were discovered, and two parcels had improvements assigned to the wrong parcel and therefore flipped in value.
Hearing officer Randy Kelly, who was introduced by staff, praised local staff for organized files. “Ryan and Shamil have everything in such great order that it makes it a pleasure to come down and do the process,” Kelly said. Commissioners noted the number of appeals was in line with recent years and that most taxpayers left satisfied with the outcome.
The formal motion to accept the BOE adjustments was made on the record and carried without opposition. Staff will implement the changes in the tax roll and the treasurer will send corrected tax notices as required.
