The Kane County Commission unanimously approved the Board of Equalization adjustments presented at its Oct. 1 special meeting, accepting the hearing officer’s recommendations following three days of appeals.
Chanel, the staff member presenting the BOE report, said the hearings covered approximately 138 appeals, many seeking the primary residential exemption; a few properties increased in value because of newly noted improvements and two parcels qualified for Greenbelt status. "We have the approval of the Board of Equalization Adjustments, which those go through a hearing process," she told the commission.
Hearing officer Randy Kelly praised county staff for organizing the hearings, saying it made his work easier: "It's always a pleasure to come down here and work," he said. Commissioners thanked staff and moved quickly to a formal vote on the recommendations; the chair called the motion and the commission recorded a unanimous approval.
The approval authorizes staff to implement changes to the county tax roll so that the treasurer may issue corrected tax notices. Commissioners said the process felt successful overall and that few appellants expressed dissatisfaction during hearings.
The commission did not alter hearing outcomes during the meeting and did not specify any post-meeting appeals; the BOE decisions will stand unless a taxpayer files a separate appeal through the state process.
