During the abatement portion of the Oct. 1 meeting, staff asked the commission whether to give an applicant additional time to supply missing income verification. Commissioners agreed to give the applicant one more week to provide the requested documents before staff issues a denial.
Chanel said staff had contacted the applicant by phone and email; after some discussion about the applicant's ability to access email and potential assistance through local senior services, the commission voted to grant a one-week extension. "I make a motion on this one that we give him 1 more week to get the required information," a commissioner said, and the motion carried.
Separately, staff presented a new circuit-breaker applicant who claimed zero income but did not respond to requests and had not provided an IRS wage-and-income transcript. Commissioners said they had no way to make a determination without documentation and voted to deny that application; staff noted the applicant may appeal the denial to the state tax commission.
Staff will continue outreach for the extension case and will record the denial and appeal rights for the nonresponsive applicant.
