The San Antonio City Council proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month during its Oct. 1 Session A meeting, urging education, prevention and coordinated services across health, justice and social-service systems. A city speaker said the proclamation was meant to “strengthen families and promote safety,” and she thanked county and nonprofit partners for their work supporting survivors.
At the meeting a speaker noted the long-term impacts of domestic violence and said collaboration is essential to break cycles of trauma: “Cada persona tiene la se merece tener seguridad en su hogar,” she said. Council members recognized the County Coordinated Community Response Board (CCBD) and praised longstanding local efforts to expand reporting, prevention education and survivor support. Officials emphasized the importance of stable funding for services and prevention programs; one council member warned that cutting Metro Health funding could impair response capacity.
The proclamation was presented as part of a broader set of civic recognitions at the Oct. 1 session. Council members asked staff to continue coordinating prevention efforts with schools, health providers and nonprofit partners and to report back on service gaps and resource needs.
