At the Oct. 1 meeting the Douglas County Board issued ceremonial proclamations and recognized local service providers.
The county proclaimed October 2026 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month; Melissa Algus (vice chair, Family Support Council) and interim executive director Brandy Thompson were present and Jen Frasani, Family Support Council program director, thanked the board and described services, including a candlelight vigil at 5:30 p.m. that evening on the Carson Valley Cultural and Museum front lawn. "Take the information today and be that positive ripple effect for Douglas County," Frasani told the commissioners.
The commission also declared Oct. 2026 Breast Cancer Awareness Month; Courtney Moore of the Carson Valley Health Foundation described local efforts to expand cancer‑care services and noted ground will be broken next year on a cancer care center at the local hospital.
The sheriff presented an employee service award to Deputy Kevin Korosic for 20 years with the sheriff’s office; Korosic thanked the board and his family. These items were presented as ceremonial and informational with no board votes required.
