The Benbrook City Council approved the city’s annual police vehicle replacement on Oct. 1, authorizing the purchase and outfitting of four 2027 Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles at a total estimated cost of roughly $327,052.
Police Commander David Martin told the council the city solicited bids through cooperative purchasing programs (Texas Buy Board, Tarrant Cooperative Joint Venture, Texas Smart Buy). He said Texas Buy Board offered the lowest per-unit bid of $54,450 and that outfitting is estimated at $27,313 per vehicle. "Staff recommends that city council approve the purchase of 4 police patrol vehicles outfitted with standard police equipment for a total price of $327,052," Martin said.
Councilmember Tyner moved to approve the purchase and Councilmember Reagan seconded; the motion carried unanimously. Martin said replaced patrol units are typically repurposed into administrative or investigative roles or transferred to other departments once removed from the patrol fleet.
