Comal County Commissioners Court on Oct. 1 adopted a proclamation recognizing October 2026 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the court said during its regular meeting.
Janice Parsley, CEO of the Crisis Center of Comal County, accepted the proclamation and described services the center provides. “Over the past year, we have served more than 1,500 clients… We 've also provided 30,000 services to these individuals. And here 's the thing that I think is most surprising. Over 50% are children,” Parsley said, urging residents to connect survivors with help and to call the Crisis Center hotline at (830) 620-7520.
The proclamation notes the county will tint the courthouse bell tower purple Oct. 1–7 to promote awareness and encourages residents to support local and national partner programs. The document cited four decades of service by the Crisis Center and called for public education, prevention efforts and accountability for perpetrators.
Commissioner Leacock moved to approve the proclamation as read and Commissioner Hogg seconded; the court approved the motion by voice/hand-raise. The proclamation and Parsley 's remarks were presented during the meeting's opening proclamations and were followed by additional routine business.
The court did not outline additional county-funded measures tied to the proclamation at this meeting; Parsley asked residents to refer people in need to the center and highlighted the facility's new building and 24/7 hotline for immediate assistance.
