The Huber Heights Culture & Diversity Commission used its Oct. 1 meeting to firm up next steps for 2027 programming, including MLK Day, Juneteenth, a multicultural festival and a Know-Your-Rights series.
Commissioners agreed to convene a planning/vision meeting before the end of 2026 so new members are aligned on priorities and responsibilities. Chair (S2) asked commissioners to nominate event champions who would prepare program-level budgets and line-item estimates so each program can be evaluated for return on community engagement as well as cost. "We have to determine what's the most priority areas that we want to spend money," S1 said.
Members debated whether to hold MLK observances on the traditional Monday or to move some activities to a weekend day to improve participation; no final decision was taken. Commissioners also discussed reviving the 3-on-3 basketball youth event, the Know-Your-Rights lecture series and educational health-awareness events for minority-health month. The commission plans to finalize details in November and asked staff to circulate packets and previous vision-meeting notes to level-set new members.
