County staff told the board Oct. 1 that a timely application to the Colorado State Historical Fund was required to pursue state monies for repairs to a county historic building, emphasizing the application itself does not commit the county to matching funds or future spending. Staff described the application as rushed because the grant round closed that day and said the county is finishing a historic structure assessment expected to be complete around February.
"This grant application was kind of a, a rush in the last... Maybe last 3 to 3.5 weeks," said Weston, who presented details on the project and said grant reviewers like to see an assessment and identified priorities. Staff said the county aims to prioritize accessible restrooms and smaller scope work because a full accessible elevator is cost-prohibitive; BVH drone lidar work is being used to verify whether settling is ongoing before addressing visible cracks. The board approved submitting the application; staff reiterated that applying does not obligate the county to accept any award.
