The Bay Shore Union Free School District dedicated Room 808 at the junior high to Philip Carpenter, who served as a social‑studies teacher and mentor for decades, speakers said.
Multiple speakers recounted Carpenter’s teaching style, mentorship and philanthropic support for students, including field trips to historical sites and donations such as funding for the school’s 9/11 memorial. "This is the best profession out there, never forget that," one speaker (speaker 10) recalled Carpenter telling students; the board invited family members to pull a covering and unveil a plaque marking Room 808 in his honor.
Jennifer Carpenter (speaker 8), identified in the meeting as Philip Carpenter’s daughter and CLASS OF 1988, thanked the board, colleagues and community for attending and said her father believed in "the power of education" to create more equitable opportunities. Speakers urged the community to carry forward Carpenter’s legacy.
