At the Sept. 30 meeting Carissa South, staff coordinator for the commission, told members there is a clerical input error in the requested 2027 comp budget: the medical exam line appears as $22,300 but should read $12,300. She told the commission that finance will update the comp budget when it is released so the corrected amount is reflected.
Carissa South also explained that several insurance lines — including liability insurance — are being centralized in the accounts department and therefore show as $0 in the commission's individual departmental request; life and disability insurance lines together were described as totaling roughly $100. Commissioners asked about a decrease shown in the city's portion of Social Security and discussed whether a part-time clerk position would appear in the 2027 requested budget; staff said the position was in 2026 actuals but not included in the 2027 request and that the commission will revisit these items at the October meeting and budget workshops.
"In our requested budget for the medical exam line, it is shown as $22,300 which we have used in past years...for 2027 there was a clerical input error, and ... that is supposed to be $12,300," Carissa South said on the record.
