The Planning, Housing, and Economic Development Committee voted unanimously to move CR 80-20-26, a resolution establishing a social housing task force, out of committee for further consideration by the County Council.
Council member Adam Stafford, the resolution sponsor, said the task force would explore new ways to make housing more affordable. "Affordable housing is an issue that I am very passionate about," Stafford said, arguing that the task force would study alternative finance and ownership models to protect residents from rent increases and property sales that displace households.
Staff gave an overview of the resolution and pointed to the agenda item summary for details. Policy and fiscal staff advised the committee that adoption "will likely have a small adverse fiscal impact" that staff expects to absorb within the existing legislative branch budget. The staff presentation said the task force is directed to develop an implementation strategy and report findings to County Council leadership.
Committee members asked no additional questions; Stafford moved to advance the resolution and the motion carried in a roll-call vote recorded as 4–0.
What happens next: The resolution will proceed to the full County Council for further consideration and potential adoption. No public commenters were registered during the committee presentation.
