In his monthly operations report, Tyler Best briefed the commission on routine work and upcoming events. He described beach combing after dip-net fishing, noting the magnetic rake recovers between about 5 and 20 pounds of metal during a comb; Best credited a local high school student for inventing the rake. Best also said the rec center has shifted to winter hours and reported 2,900 visits at the rec center in the last period.
Best promoted the Kenai Pumpkin Festival scheduled for Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., asked commissioners to sign up as volunteers, and discussed potential activities and logistics. Commission members and staff discussed event features (including a possible trebuchet demonstration), field use and safety, and volunteer coordination. Best said staff would send volunteer links and event duty breakdowns to commissioners.
