The city council liaison told the Parks and Recreation Commission that council received several public comments about the proposed Deep Green Data Center application and that the city manager recommended the city preserve its ability to participate as an intervener in any litigation related to the project. The liaison emphasized the recommendation is procedural—"It does not denote, like, support or non support. It simply preserves our ability to take a position as a party in the issue later,"—and said the city attorney will advise further and more information will be provided at a future meeting.
The liaison also reported other council actions: amendments to the Kenai Municipal Code to remove library policies from city code so the library can manage its own policies; increased appropriations to repair the senior center canopy/roof; and an authorization to purchase two police interceptors using the fleet replacement fund. The liaison described the fleet replacement fund as a mechanism for budgeting periodic vehicle replacements and noted the practice allowed long-term reuse of vehicles across departments.
