The Lago Vista City Council voted unanimously to appoint Police Chief Ron Joy as interim city manager effective immediately.
"Mayor, I'd like to move to appoint police chief Ron Joy as interim city manager effective immediately," said the Mayor Pro Tem during the post-executive-session actions. The motion was seconded and approved with all members voting in favor.
Chief Ron Joy thanked the council and asked for patience as he steps into a role he acknowledged he has not previously held. "I appreciate your support, that you gave me in the last time I sat in this chair and ask that your... Ask for your grace again for, appointing someone that has never been a city manager before," he said. Joy told council his first administrative act would be to appoint Assistant Chief Tom Franco as acting chief of the Lago Vista Police Department and that he would bring that appointment back for ratification at the next council meeting.
Why it matters: The council’s vote installs an internal, temporary leader while staff proceed with longer-term personnel decisions. That appointment changes day-to-day executive leadership and immediately affects police command staffing until formal ratification of the acting chief.
