Landmark Hotel Group says it will invest in Pinewood Plaza redevelopment

The Hampton City Council recognized Landmark Hotel Group of Virginia Beach during a spotlight program where the company’s president, Akhil John, described redevelopment activity in the Coliseum Central district.

City remarks said Landmark recently acquired Pinewood Plaza on Commerce Drive and plans a mixed-use project that includes luxury apartments, dining and an upscale hotel on roughly 17.71 acres near Mercury Boulevard and I-64. "They plan to invest more than $800,000 in improvements at the Pinewood," John told the council, thanking the city for its cooperation during renovation and repositioning of nearby hotel properties.

John said the firm's prior conversion of a Quality Inn to a Holiday Inn Express helped lift the property’s performance; the presenter noted the Holiday Inn Express ranks highly on guest-satisfaction lists and that InterContinental Hotel Group named its renovation a brand award. The council extended congratulations and emphasized the city’s role in facilitating redevelopment.

No formal zoning or financial actions were taken during the recognition segment; staff and economic development were noted as continuing partners on the larger Coliseum Central redevelopment.
