The council recognized Mango Mango Mango Preserves after the company’s appearance on ABC’s Shark Tank. Founders Nzinga, Lakeisha and Tanisha came forward while the council played a short clip of the program and described the product and business impact.
The founders said the Shark Tank segment led to a rapid spike in orders. "We had over 15,000 orders within 48 hours," one founder told the council, and said the business has hired local residents in response to the short-term surge. They said Mango Mango Mango has been served in the Virginia Governor’s Mansion and received the Virginia Finest designation from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
The mayor and city staff offered city assistance and the economic development office said it has been in contact to help keep the business in Hampton as it expands. The recognition was ceremonial and the city indicated staff stands ready to support the founders’ efforts to locate a facility locally.
