City staff used the Spotlight on Citizens segment to highlight the Hampton Home Repair Blitz, a volunteer-driven program that partners with Habitat for Humanity Virginia Peninsula and the Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority. Jonathan McBride said the Blitz—running since 2012—has involved more than 1,200 volunteers and worked across multiple neighborhoods. "Since we started, it's... We've, been able to affect 148 homes and 8 different neighborhoods," McBride said, describing repairs ranging from painting and landscaping to safety modifications for aging homeowners.
McBride identified major partners and in-kind contributors, including United Way, local businesses and civic groups such as Omega Psi Phi, and said the Blitz has raised over $80,000 in community support. He invited partners and volunteers to participate in the next Blitz scheduled for April 30. Janet Green, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Virginia Peninsula, thanked partners directly: "We couldn't do any of this without the great partnerships, and we appreciate you so much," she said. City leaders encouraged residents and organizations to contact staff for participation and materials support.
