Longmont city staff updated Boulder County commissioners on the operational phase of the 1st & Main redevelopment, emphasizing a compressed construction schedule and coordination across multiple projects and agencies. City Manager Harold Dominguez said foundation work for the parking structure is expected to begin in October and that the schedule aims to finish the parking garage by the end of next year. "Within the next 6 months, there's gonna be a lot of construction and all of these things will be moving, and they're gonna be moving fast because of the time line," Dominguez said.
Dominguez outlined linked projects that must be sequenced carefully: Kaufman Street sewer installation, signal upgrades at Boston and Pratt, a retention pond for storm drainage, and a rail platform that requires coordination with CDOT, BNSF and rail agencies. He said testing and regulatory work impose hard deadlines for the rail components, and multiple partners including CDOT, DOLA, Front Range Community College and RTD are slated to participate in a ceremonial groundbreaking on Oct. 9 at noon. City staff said they will issue invitations and hold neighborhood-focused meetings mid-October and a countywide open house in January to review the overall construction plan and communications storyboard.
