County commissioners told Longmont leaders that the Fairgrounds master plan completed several years ago remains the guiding document but has high cost implications that have stalled implementation. A commissioner summarized the situation bluntly: "It's extremely expensive to, to do what maybe we would wanna do," and said the county had put the work on hold given other financial priorities.
Council members said the Fairgrounds serves the whole county and encouraged collaborative options, including public-private partnerships and targeted reinvestment in core facilities so programming can continue. County staff said they will bring the topic back to the board for a reset conversation tentatively scheduled for Nov. 10 at 1 p.m., and urged that any substantial next step will require a local champion and concrete, fiscally feasible proposals.
