Senate adopts FY2027 budget conference report unanimously

The presiding officer called the emergency session to order and said the Senate would act on House Bill 24‑108 HS1 SD1, the proposed budget for fiscal year 2027. “I hereby call the 2nd day, senate emergency session to order,” the presiding officer said at the start of the session.

The Senate voted to adopt Conference Committee Report No. 24‑07 on House Bill 24‑108 HS1 SD1 (in the form of CCS‑1). The floor leader moved to adopt the conference committee report; the motion was seconded and placed under discussion. Senator Hofschneider, chairman of Fiscal Affairs, summarized the conferees’ work and urged senators to support the product so it could be transmitted to the executive branch for review.

The floor leader described key financing decisions negotiated in the conference committee and the oversight language included in the report. “We came to an understanding that...we try to get their resources up to the minimum 32,000,000,” the floor leader said, referring to the Public School System (PSS). After discussion, the clerk called the roll on the adoption vote; the presiding officer announced that all eight members voted in the affirmative, and the Senate adopted the conference committee report.

The adoption clears the Senate to transmit the FY2027 budget package to the executive branch for disposition. No amendments were recorded on the floor during the vote, and members expressed appreciation for staff and conferees’ work before moving to adjourn.

The Senate adjourned the emergency session shortly after the vote.
