At the end of the meeting staff provided a set of brief informational updates on ongoing projects around the city.
Staff said the public-comment period for the airport EIR has closed and additional consultation is underway before bringing the project to the commission. The council recently approved sale of property near the old resort for a developer-proposed hotel/restaurant/marina project; staff said the current proposal contains only by-right uses and therefore may not require discretionary planning permits, though environmental review remains necessary. Staff also described governance changes for the county sewer district, noting the city now has two seats on the district board to coordinate operations for a larger area; work on governance is ongoing.
On environmental-tech pilots, staff reported the sonic-buoy project for algae control at Red Bud Park has been deployed and an algae-harvesting system has been operating for several weeks; a public demonstration and tour was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. the following morning. Commissioners asked questions about timelines for recycling center relocation and road maintenance projects; staff said scheduling and funding remain in progress.
What happens next: Staff will continue consultation on the airport EIR, coordinate environmental review as required for waterfront projects and report back on sewer-district governance and infrastructure priorities.
