The San Antonio City Council approved the consent agenda (items 5–17) with item 8 pulled for separate consideration and item 13 withdrawn. Several public commenters addressed two consent items.
Luis Vasquez, executive director of the San Antonio LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce, urged support for item 15, the designation of a portion of North Main Avenue as Bridal Andrews Memorial Way, noting the nominee's significance to local LGBT cultural history. Family members and community advocates described Erica (Bridal) Andrews as a long-time performer and community figure; one speaker, Lindsay Andrews, said the designation will let future residents ask "Who was she?" and learn that she "opened doors for people like me."
An opposing speaker, Jack Finger, challenged the nomination's fit with city code and argued the nominee did not meet the 'leader' standard in the city's street-name policy. Council members who sponsored or supported the item said the Office of Historic Preservation recognized Bridal Andrews' role in the Bridal Cultural Heritage District and that the designation is a memorial way funded from District 1 funds.
Separately, Jacqueline Ali and Council member McKee Rodriguez discussed item 16, renaming Splashtown Drive to Willie Mitchell Place to honor a local East Side leader and former NFL player who returned to the community to start San Antonio Fighting Back. McKee Rodriguez said the neighborhood and stakeholders supported the change.
The council voted to approve the consent agenda (excluding item 8), carrying the items that included the two street-name designations.
