Eric Sandberg, who reviewed the KDOT agreement for the K-68 project, told the commission he believed the county's original expected contribution was $1,000,000 but that a line in the current contract now shows $1,500,000. "That is... once completion of those frontage roads is done, they revert back to us... except for that one line in there that now says you owe $1,500,000 as opposed to the $1,000,000 that you... I assume we all thought we owed," Sandberg said.
Sandberg recommended the commission read the contract closely and consult with the county attorney before signing. Commissioners discussed placing the item on a study session and agreed to table the item for two weeks to allow review; the motion to table passed unanimously.
The staff comment noted the county had previously discussed taking frontage roads and assuming maintenance; the updated contract language and the higher dollar figure prompted the request to pause. The commission directed staff to coordinate with county counsel and return the item for further consideration.
