A committee member told the Peru Zoning Board that the city is "looking into taking over the Peru, the Peru Tribune Building" and suggested the Tribune lot could mitigate downtown parking strain.
The remark surfaced during deliberations on a parking variance for apartments at 52–54 South Broadway, when members weighed whether nearby on-street parking could support new residential units. "He says the city is looking into taking over the Peru, the Peru Tribune Building," the committee member said, noting that if the city acquires that lot it could resolve many parking questions related to the proposal.
Board members did not take any action to authorize acquisition or a parking agreement. The chair noted the board’s responsibility was limited to the variance request; further property actions would require separate authority and follow-up from the city’s administration.
