The Alamo Heights Independent School District Board of Trustees voted Oct. 1 to reinstate a 1.1 grade-weight multiplier for the district’s dual-credit U.S. history and psychology high school courses.
Mrs. Lauren McLaughlin, secretary of the board, moved the motion, saying the action was taken “due to inconsistent and inaccurate information following the April 15 Board decision,” and that the board would return course weights to those assigned at registration. Mr. David Hornberger seconded the motion; the minutes state the motion “carried unanimously.”
According to the minutes, the decision applies specifically to U.S. Dual Credit History 1301 and 1302 and Dual Credit Psychology 2301 and 2314 and restores the 1.1 multiplier that was in effect at the time of registration. The minutes also record that students will be given a course-change window: students currently enrolled in dual-credit may request a change into the corresponding AP course (weighted at 1.13), and students in on-level or AP courses may request a change into the dual-credit offering.
The action followed the board’s closed executive session earlier in the meeting and the board’s reconvening in open session at 8:41 a.m. The meeting adjourned at 8:43 a.m. The minutes list attendance and show the motion was adopted without recorded opposition.
