Commission signs off on holiday events, including Light Up Winter Garden and downtown wine walk

City staff presented a package of special-event approvals for the holiday season and Small Business Saturday. The downtown events include Light Up Winter Garden (official lighting at 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 4), the annual Christmas parade and a golf-cart parade on Dec. 5, and a Small Business Saturday event on Nov. 28. Staff also presented a downtown wine walk with merchant-hosted wine tastings; the recommendation included a condition that all wine tastings occur inside merchant buildings and that no alcohol be permitted outside.

Commissioners discussed scheduling and coordination with local venues including the Garden Theatre and passenger-performer arrangements; after questions and a motion, the commission unanimously approved the events and associated temporary road closures.
