Dr. Maddox, identifying herself as "chairwoman for the Waller County Democratic Party," used the public-comment period to press county leaders for an expedited review of the county elections administrator’s work.
"My job is to do elections," Dr. Maddox said, urging a formal meeting of the elections commission to evaluate the elections administrator, Christy Easton. She said she had spent significant time recruiting candidates and poll workers and expressed concern the administrator may not be acting as proactively as needed ahead of the upcoming election. Dr. Maddox asked the commission to schedule the review by the following Wednesday, citing a five-business-day expectation for such a meeting.
Her request called for the elections commission that hired the administrator to convene and either conduct the review or for the vice chair or other party officials to call the meeting if the commission did not act. Dr. Maddox said the objective was to avoid the expense and confusion of printing incorrect ballots and to ensure transparency around candidate eligibility and ballot certification.
