County staff recommended awarding the mowing services contract to a primary vendor with a named secondary vendor to step in if the primary is unable to perform. Jamie explained the county solicited proposals and that the procurement included a primary and secondary to ensure continuity of service.
Jamie said the primary vendor's estimated cost was about "$199 per estimated mile" and the secondary (Yellowstone) about "$325." Commissioners expressed concern about the pricing gap and asked how the county would evaluate vendor capacity and whether contract language would allow moving to the secondary vendor. Staff said references, equipment checks and vendor capacity reviews are part of the vetting process and that the county can cancel with the primary and move to the secondary if needed.
Separately, the court approved a bond-funded road project awarded to Texas Materials Group Inc.; staff said the engineer's estimate was about $9.4 million and the winning bid came in at approximately $8.7 million, meaning the project would proceed under the estimate.
